NFPA 1000

NFPA 1000, the Standard for Fire Service Professional Qualifications Accreditation and Certification Systems, is important for: organizations that give approval to groups that certify fire and emergency response workers, and colleges that offer degrees in non–engineering, fire–related fields.

It also helps those groups that certify fire and emergency response workers to show they meet a nationally recognized standard. It applies to non–engineering, fire–related degree programs offered by colleges.

In the 2022 update, there is clearer information that the programs being accredited are the ones that are actually being approved, not the organizations that manage them. 

A newer version of the job performance requirements guide, which includes examples of action words to use and sample ways to evaluate performance.

A new requirement that schools offering degrees must include rules against discrimination and harassment in their policies and how they operate. More details on recertification and renewal, with new meanings for certain terms and more information on making policies to handle these issues.
